We are now at 250 days until the launch of Santa’s sleigh.

Before our next marker at 200 days we expect to see a lot of progress. By the time that milestone comes in early June we should see the return of test flight teams and the start of test flights of Santa’s new sleigh.

The work of the Regional Tracking Center Committee should be advanced by then too. Sometime in July the centers will be announced.

We also expect an update from Santa’s Workshop about the progress being made to fulfill wishes. It’s always busier the 2nd half of the year but we should have a good idea if things are on track.

So what’s going on for THIS marker?

Elf training is top of mind at this time of year. Sleigh Traffic Control school is over and testing is being done to certified the 2000 new elves that will be needed in advance of Santa’s flight.

We are also expecting some news about sleigh designs of a different sort. We understand that freighter sleighs – the thousands to participate in Operation Airlift every Christmas Eve to support Santa all over the world – will be getting a new design this year with upgraded capabilities.

In all, it’s a busy time at North Pole Flight Command. Everything appears to be on track.

A recent post shared at SantaUpdate.com by Elf Trixie revealed news of a radical new sleigh design being considered by Santa.

We want to clarify some things about this project.

First, it is in the very early stages of development. While all the details shared in the post are accurate we cannot say right now whether this new design will be ready or even tested this year.

Second, the original flight plans, developed in February 2024, included a slight redesign of last year’s record-setting sleigh. As of right now, that is still the go-to plan for this year.

Flight tests of new sleighs, regardless of design, are scheduled to begin around the first week of June.

This is very traditional. The tests generally go right up until Christmas Eve.

As decisions are made about Santa’s sleigh we will release official news as developments progress.

North Pole Flight Command celebrated the 300 day marker to Santa’s launch by welcoming Santa, for the first time this year, to North Pole Flight Command.

In a general gathering in the large hangar in Flight Command with more than 3000 elves in attendance Santa spoke at the invitation of Elf Roger Star, director of North Pole Flight Command.

It was the first time this year Santa has said anything publicly to a large gathering of elves.

In his speech Santa thanked the many teams of elves working under the direction of North Pole Flight Command for their efforts last Christmas.

Santa forgot no one. He spoke of the Sleigh design team, the sleigh traffic controllers, the ships of the North Pole Navy, all the test flight teams of pilots and reindeer, and even the ground crews who cleared the snow on Christmas Eve.

Santa said the elves will commemorate the record-setting accomplishments of last year’s flight by wearing a special patch on their uniforms in the year ahead. Each elf gets a special certificate honoring the event with a personal letter of commendation from Santa for their contributions.

This made everyone really excited. Santa spoke only briefly after his flight, expressing his gratitude, but since that time he has been mostly quiet. It was good for the elves to hear all this from him.

Santa said that since we’re now at 300 days to launch is time to fully focus on Christmas this year.

He announced there will be a new sleigh in 2024 and it will feature a new design. That has been under debate by Flight Command leadership since New Year.

The Sleigh Department is very excited about that.

So we expect a timeline to be published soon of targets North Pole Flight Command will need to hit in order for Santa to launch on time.

A new sleigh design means an all new build, which means lots of test flights, which means a long season ahead of learning and preparation.

Stay tuned for more news, gang.
