Another 800 Sleighs Delivered
The Sleigh Department made another big delivery of sleighs this week – 800 were added to the supply, making now 1650 total sleighs out of 3500 ordered have been completed.
The sleighs are to power Operation Airlift this year. Operation Airlift is the effort to support Santa’s sleigh by resupplying Santa with toys, by shuttling service elves to where they need to be and to serve as emergency service vehicles for everything from fence repair to reindeer medical support.
The sleighs will be coordinated for the first time in history. No longer will Operation Airlift be powered by a mixture and new and old style sleighs. The fleet will be uniformed and engineered to dock with Santa’s sleigh whether in flight or on the ground.
The sleighs support a method of constant replenishment of Santa’s sleigh, a change requiring not only extensive redesign of Santa’s sleigh and the fleet sleighs but also retraining of all support elves who work those sleighs.
In order for Santa to be successful with the new “rapid replenishment” strategy all 3500 sleighs need to be complete, the reindeer and sleigh pilots trained to fly them, and Flight Command trained to coordinate them.
This new system is affecting the workflow of nearly every North Pole Department as they adapt to all new methods designed to improve Santa’s speed and delivery efficiency.
It all has to be complete and ready by the time of Santa’s launch.
