Donner and Blitzen Released from Flight Duty

Donner and Blitzen were enlisted in to duty on the test flight teams when flights began back in June. They have now been released from that duty.

It has been an unusual run. It has been years since either reindeer have participated in test flight duty. They came at Santa’s request.

According to Elf Buck Sanchez, flight director at North Pole Flight Command, their presence has made a success of test flights that have been beset with problems and criticism.

“They have served with distinction,” said Elf Buck. “They always do. They have worked hard but the general feeling is that with a month or so left until the start of the reindeer games it might better serve their health to give them a good break.”

Ironically, this is the time of year when we normally see the return of Santa’s reindeer to the North Pole. So homecoming for Donner and Blitzen will look normal enough.

“I hear they are in fantastic shape,” said Elf Big Sled Ted of the Kringle Reindeer Center. “All the work of the test flights have them in prime physical condition. We will give them a few weeks off and we will evaluate their diet for their needs, but I’m guessing just rest will be a major part of the program.”
