Daisy Begins Test Flights
The Sleigh Department has delivered 32 sleighs – this one being Version #4 code-named Daisy – and test flights with those sleighs begin today.
That retires Clara, Version #3, which performed for just two weeks.
Test flight engineers are not singing the praises of Clara for her performance. However, they are saying that her flights revealed a number of adjustments that should improve the chances of Daisy doing better.
Pilots still say the test flights are slower than what Santa will need for his Christmas flight.
Elf Tab “Sky Knife” Darrien, a very experienced test flight pilot, said that at current top speeds of the sleigh Santa would require almost 45 hours to complete his journey.
Elf Wilbur Boeing, noted flight analyst at Flight Command known for his commentary on the Tracking Santa Around the World Radio Show each Christmas, said that 45 hours is “within the window of acceptability”, meaning that Santa could live with that kind of performance.
“But, flight planners would really have to adjust for a much later schedule on Christmas Eve.” Elf Wilbur said. “Santa would be arriving after 2am local time with this kind of sleigh performance. That’s not great, but most areas could make that work.”
For this reason, designers, engineers and analysts will be watching the performance of Daisy closely.
