The test flights of Santa’s sleigh continue to struggle as they fly over Sector 2.

But the tests have been productive enough that Santa has authorized the build of Version #5 of the sleigh, this one to be code named Eunice.

It is expected that Eunice will be delivered in about a week.

According to Elf Z, the Associate Director of Santa Trackers and a long-time flight analyst in North Pole Flight Command, the concerns right now with the sleigh are centered more on logistics than speed performance.

Elf Z explains that means the docking of support sleighs to Santa’s sleigh for what they call “rapid replenishment”.

Santa cannot carry everything he needs to deliver on the sleigh at one time. It is impossible.

Over time the North Pole has developed a transfer method that constantly provides Santa with his delivery goods. While Santa delivers, a complex system utilizing elves, reindeer and sleighs constantly supplying “just in time” delivery of what Santa needs.

This year’s sleigh has a new design that affects – and speeds up – that process. The capacity of Santa’s sleigh has been increased, the capacity of the supply sleighs has been increased and the transfer process has been redesigned to be more efficient.

Coordinating these new details – which come with new procedures that Santa and every elf need to learn — is the challenge in trying to improve the overall speed of Santa’s delivery process. It’s not all about the speed of the sleigh itself.

Elf Z said the test flights this year are “incredibly complex” and that patience is needed at every level as they work through all the new capabilities and demands of the improved processes. Until these new processes are mastered Elf Z explained that it is going to appear that the sleigh is struggling.

Santa has expressed continued confidence that the sleigh will be ready in time for Christmas.
