Debate Over Reindeer Wedding
A week from Saturday the biggest reindeer event of this century (probably) will take place – the wedding of two star reindeer, Trixie and the Mighty Mick.
This high profile reindeer pair are both currently serving on the test flight team. They most certainly will be off that day to get married.
But who else gets the day off?
With Santa recently ordering 64 new sleighs – a record in North Pole Flight history – it is clear that test flights are headed to 24-hour a day operations.
That means come Saturday, August 29th at least some test pilots and reindeer will be working and unable to attend the big event.
Months ago, long before any of the challenges of test flights were known, it was reported that all who wanted to attend the wedding could.
Now that looks to be in question. As of today, we are running just 32 test flight teams with the current version of Santa’s sleigh.
We do not have enough reindeer working at the moment to fill a schedule reflective of 64 sleighs. That’s about 640 reindeer running per shift. That’s better than 1900 reindeer per day. When you consider that reindeer require, at a minimum, at least two days off per week – well, more than 2000 reindeer are needed just to keep 64 test sleighs in the skies around the clock.
Who is working and who will be at the wedding has not yet been revealed.
