Struggles with New Sleigh Design
Beatrice, the #2 version of Santa’s new sleigh, is not performing well in test flights.
“She’s slow,” said Elf Tex Cramer, a lead designer on the radical new sleigh design. “We need to meet a minimum speed threshold in order to fly this thing on Christmas Eve and we’re not meeting it.”
Santa, who has spent a lot of time at North Pole Flight Command involved with the new sleigh project, insists that speed is not the concern with the sleigh.
He said speed is determined more by reindeer power than sleigh design.
Santa was blunt in his assessment of Beatrice before it heads toward Sector 4 for the first test flights away from the North Pole.
“I could fly a solid brick and it wouldn’t matter if I have reindeer who can pull it right,” Santa said.
“This new sleigh is about speed but not going fast. I need everyone involved to understand that. We’re not talking a race car here. We’re talking about Santa’s sleigh – something that moves not only me but also everything I have to deliver. Speed is about a lot more than just the design.”
Santa is currently hosting a Logistics Conference at North Pole Flight Command involving every major North Pole Department.
In an address to attendees Santa said the speed of his sleigh, the records that could be set, and the ultimate success of his delivery mission will be determined more by organization, coordination and Christmas spirit than by sleigh design, aerodynamics, and reindeer power.
Beatrice is nearing the end of her lifecycle in testing and frustrated sleigh engineers are already working on Version #3 of Santa’s new sleigh.
