Changes for Santa’s Flight
School is in session at North Pole Flight Command as reindeer and test pilots alike have been briefed on features new to Santa’s sleigh and are now being taught changes in flight procedures.
All training sessions are being held in secure facilities. Details of all the new data and instruction have been classified as “top secret”.
Sleigh designers and builders have produced the first prototype of Santa’s new sleigh and it is on open display at flight headquarters. It is just a prototype so it contains none of the actual electronic equipment or lights that Santa’s actual sleigh will use. This sleigh will never fly but it gives believers a good idea of what it will look like.
“It’s a little shorter on the back end but it carries a whopping 8% more than Santa’s last new sleigh,” said Sleigh engineer Elf Bernie Haycock. “That backend is getting a lot of attention because is has a very large opening that would appear to be a design flaw. It’s on display like that for a reason. It closes using a clever mechanism that makes the doors appear and disappear instantly.”
Those instant-open doors are expected to help new records to be set in loading Santa’s sleigh. With an eye on ever increasing efficiency even an improvement of just a few seconds makes a big difference with how fast Santa’s job can be done. The design changes are of great interest to elves whose jobs will be affected by the changes.
Elf Bernie explained: “From a payload aspect this is revolutionary design, because it means the sleigh can be loaded and unloaded at a very fast pace. The elves from logistics are showing up in droves and taking pictures quite a bit. They are super excited about it. If flight tests go well the logistics elves should start working with their own training with those doors by about October.”
While the attention on the look and function of Santa’s sleigh is quite high right now because of the changes rumors are swirling at North Pole Flight Command as meetings with huge groups of elves in flight planning, distribution and weather are taking place. Elves are coming out of those meetings with very serious looks on their faces and they are avoiding questions from others wanting to know what is going on.
Security is very high this year and we’re not yet sure why that is the case. It could lead to more significant changes to how Santa flies on Christmas Eve.
